I work in an integrative way that brings together evidence based psychological therapies with approaches that support deeper emotional and energetic healing.
My background as a Mental Health Nurse has given me the privilege of supporting people through a wide range of mental health challenges including depression, anxiety and, at times, more complex difficulties such as psychosis. Through this work I have spent many years listening to people’s stories and witnessing both the depth of human suffering and the incredible capacity people have to heal.
Early in my career I noticed something important. Diagnoses often described the symptoms someone was experiencing, but they rarely explained the origin of their distress. Again and again a common thread appeared to be an experience of trauma of some kind. Eleanor Longden’s words capture this perfectly:
An important question in mental health shouldn’t be ‘What’s wrong with you?’ but rather ‘What’s happened to you?
This understanding led me to explore therapies that focus on compassion and deeper connection with self. I was particularly drawn to Paul Gilbert’s Compassion Focused Therapy, which brings together ideas from attachment theory, developmental psychology and mindfulness.
Recognising that much trauma is relational and often occurs within families and wider systems, I also trained in family interventions and have worked with many families affected by trauma.
As my professional, personal and spiritual journey continued, I began to feel that something was missing from these more traditional therapeutic approaches. While it was clear that people benefited, I felt called to explore ways of working that could reach deeper levels of change.
This is what led me to Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Matrix Reimprinting (MRA).
I was drawn to the concept of the matrix and the idea that we can gently revisit past experiences and interact with the parts of our consciousness that became stuck in those moments. I trained with Karl Dawson, one of only twenty nine EFT Founding Masters worldwide and the creator of MRA.
The training really cemented the path for me. I loved that the technique works on an energetic level while leaving space for imagination. It felt gentle yet powerful and, above all, authentic.
Later, after experiencing Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) first hand, I became fascinated by how change could happen through conversation. Wanting to add this to my skill set, I chose to train with David Shephard, a Master Trainer of NLP with over thirty years of experience. The training was immersive and experiential, meaning we worked both as therapist and client. This allowed me to experience the techniques directly and deepen my understanding of transformational change. I later returned to complete my Master Practitioner and Coaching qualification in NLP.
Most recently my journey has taken me back to university, where I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychological Therapies in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This allows me to integrate CBT into my work and continue developing an approach that bridges evidence based psychological therapies with intuitive and holistic practices.
Bringing these approaches together allows me to offer a flexible and person-centred way of working. For some people the doorway into healing may be through conversation and cognitive approaches. For others it may be through imagery, somatic awareness or deeper energetic work. Often it is the integration of these methods that creates the most meaningful change.
Like many people who step into the world of healing, my path has also been shaped by my own life experiences. I have faced challenges and personal traumas that led me to seek healing myself. Through this process I have come to understand both the vulnerability and the courage it takes to enter therapy. This continued commitment to self-reflection allows me to hold a compassionate and grounded space for the people I work with.
Living by the seaside offers many moments to slow down and reflect. Walks with my Boston Terrier, Betty often remind me how important it is to create space to pause, breathe and reconnect with ourselves.
Creating that same sense of space for reflection and change is at the heart of my work through Freedom 2 Heal.
